Larix gmelinii ‘Romberg Park’
A superb dwarf, deciduous conifer that will develop tufts of short branches giving it appeal in all seasons. In early spring, it is one of the first to push growth, programmed from its cold native habitat and short growing season to take full advantage of warming temperatures. The softly textured, light green needles change to yellow in fall, and then drop to reveal the plant’s many short stems for winter interest. Plant in light, well-drained soil in a sunny garden. Has a globe shaped growth habit & reaches roughly 6’ tall by 6’ wide in size, growing 3” to 6” a year.
Larix kaempferi ‘Diana’
A deciduous contorted larch with pea green foliage that turns bright gold in fall. Prized for its sculptural form, especially in winter, that adds ornamental value to any landscape. Has a broad pyramidal growth habit & growing 15’ or taller once mature.
Larix kaempferi ‘Paper Lanterns’
A larch that is slightly contorted with bright green foliage that turns bright gold in fall. Interesting small yellow-green cones mature to brown “lanterns” on bare branches in fall to winter. A unique specimen tree with year-round interest. Has a narrow upright growth habit & growing 15’ or taller once mature.
Larix kaempferi 'Wolterdingen'
This compact, spreading specimen provides exceptional seasonal interest for small landscapes and rock gardens. In early spring, soft, new, blue-green needles emerge and continue to decorate the delicate mound through the growing season. In fall, needles change to rich yellow before they fall to show off ornamental, reddish brown branches with scales reminiscent of an armadillo’s armor. Has a spreading growth habit & reaches roughly 4’ tall by 8’ wide in size, growing 3” to 6” a year.
