Acorus

Also commonly known as Japanese Sweet Flag. An ‘old faithful’, award winning grass that has great foliage interest, in fall too! Easy to care for, no deadheading necessary & likes moisture. Prefers part sun to full sun, has an upright habit & is great in containers as a filler - also good for use in the landscape too.

Andropogon

Also commonly known as Big Bluestem. A warm-season grass that has a clumping form & is a good sustainable choice for landscapes. A tough & resilient grass that can be used as erosion control, screening, in many landscapes and they’re good for providing food & shelter for wildlife. Can be drought tolerant too, once established.

Anemanthele

Also commonly known as Pheasant’s Tail grass. A clumping large arching grass with colorful surprises throughout the year. Needs a protected location in the gardens to help avoid full on exposure & cold winds. It is best used in containers.

Bouteloua

Also commonly known as Blue Grama grass. An upright clumping grass that resists deer & is drought tolerant, once established. An easy to care for perennials that is great in containers as a thriller.

Calamagrostis

Also known commonly known as Reed Grass. An award winning type of cool-season grass that will beautify your garden year after year. It is easy to care for, does not require any deadheading & is heat tolerant. Has an upright growth habit that is great in the landscape as well as a thriller in a container. Attracts birds.

Carex

Also commonly known as Sedge grass. A low growing, clumping grass that adds texture, color & structural interest to any garden. Very adaptable & will grow well even in wet and/or shady conditions.

Chasmanthium

Also commonly known as Northern Sea Oats grass. Has attractive, bamboo-like foliage & dangling, flat flower spikes that create a showy accent around water features. Foliage turns coppery in fall, brown in winter. Provides a haven & source of food for birds & wildlife. Takes wind & ocean salt spray. Thrives in moist sites, yet quite tolerant of dry conditions when grown in shade settings. Can tolerate both sun & shade conditions, depending on the variety.

Cortaderia

Also commonly known as Pampas grass. A beautiful landscape specimen prized for its handsome fall flowers. Long stalks of dramatic, creamy white plumes are held above dense clumps of green foliage. This perennial grass is wind & drought tolerant, & provides a showy windbreak or screen. The smaller dwarf form is well-suited to smaller gardens & landscapes.

Deschampsia

Also commonly known as Tufted Hair grass. A cool-season grass that puts on most of their growth in spring & and in the fall. They generally maintain good color through the summer, but won't grow much when it is hot. Cut back cool season grasses in very early spring. A shorter type of grass that has an upright growth habit, perfect as a thriller in a container.

Festuca

Also commonly known as Blue Fescue grass. A clumping grass that has outstanding, icy blue coloring & holds up even through the heat of summer. Buff-colored plumes create eye-catching contrast. Perfectly suited for edging borders or mass planting as a groundcover. Drought tolerant when established. Semi-evergreen.

Helictotrichon

Also commonly known as Oat grass. Produces graceful fountains of silver-blue blades that form neat clumps that combine well with other grasses. Airy, beige to light brown, terminal panicles appear mid to late summer. A reliable & attractive accent or specimen, perfect for rock gardens.

Imperata

Also commonly known as Japanese Blood grass. A unique ornamental grass type that provides lots of color, texture & movement to any landscape. Easy to maintain & is great as a border, container or mass planting.

Juncus

A warm-season grass that can play a nice supporting role for just about any other plant. Won't start growing until mid to late spring or even early summer & majority of growth and flowering happens when the weather is hot. Can work in both landscapes as well as in containers as a thriller.

Liriope

Also commonly known as Lilyturfs. A tough, drought-tolerant ground cover (once established, looks quite a bit like grass, it's actually an herbaceous flowering perennial. Can be used to prevent erosion, to serve as an edging plant, or to help with weed control. Can tolerate both sun & shade conditions, depending on the variety.

Miscanthus

Also commonly known as Chinese Silver grass. A warm-season grass that has a graceful habit with delicate looking leaves & late summer blooms. Easy to care for, no deadheading needed, attracts birds & is deer resistant. Great in containers, borders, landscapes & in mass plantings.

Molinia

Also commonly known as Moor grass. Has mounding clumps of gently arching blades that offer striking texture & contrast with upright stems of delicate plumes that tower above the foliage & shimmer when back lit by the sun. Great for use as an accent or for a showier mass planting. Deciduous.

Nassella

Also commonly known as Mexican Feather grass or Stipa. This grass will beautify your garden in all seasons with its graceful moves in the slightest breeze.  Great for use in containers or in the landscape.

Ophiopogon

Also commonly known as Mondo grass. Has attractive clumps of stemless grass-like leaves make a beautiful small-scale groundcover or low border. Tiny spikes of lilac flowers appear in summer. This care-free, easy to grow perennial is ideal for adding texture to the garden. Can tolerate both sun & shade conditions, depending on the variety.

Panicum

Also commonly known as Switch grass. A sturdy, durable ornamental grass that withstands adverse weather conditions. One of the easiest ornamental grasses to grow in full sun. Does well in any soil from sand to clay. Cut back in spring before new growth appears. Has great visual interest basically all year long, is drought tolerant (once established), is deer resistant & good for erosion control. Can be used in containers, borders or in the landscape.

Pennisetum

Also commonly known as Fountain grass. An “old faithful” type of grass that will beautify your garden all summer long. Has upright, arching, gracefully nodding plumes that come up and out from foliage in a beautiful form. Especially dramatic in clusters, mass plantings, or along slopes. A favorite for fresh or dried arrangements. Pest and disease-free.

Schizachyrium

Also commonly known as Little Bluestem. A deciduous, clumping grass with foliage that changes colors in the fall. Flower spikes emerge above the foliage, displaying fluffy seed heads that persist into fall. Good ground-cover for massing or effective specimen in borders & rock gardens.
