Radiator plants! (Pepperomia) One of my personal favorite plants is the Peperomia! Why? DO YOU KNOW HOW EASY THIS PLANT IS?? Did you know they can go in direct sun, shade OR live in extreme heat or drafts? Did you know how many shapes and sizes AND COLORS they come in? Did you know they can legit go almost ANYWHERE in your home? Well… Let me tell ya they are, they can, they do and they WILL!
Peperomias, for the most part, will absolutely thrive on neglect. They want to wilt a bit between watering, and don’t need to be misted unless they get dusty or you would like to clean them. I personally like to put mine in cactus soil if it’s in low light and houseplant (indoor) soil when they are in bright light to sun. They never want to jump higher than a 2-inch increase in pot size when root bound and they really don’t need much fertilizer; to be honest I don’t know when the last time was that I fertilized mine and it’s still growing strong! (Life man, ya’kno?)
Anyways, back in the day the Peperomia got its nickname “Radiator Plant” because it was one of the very few home and office plants that could be placed above or next to a radiator. Don’t know what a radiator is? It’s an old school heater; SO yes, you can place your Peperomias next to your heater, fireplace, or air conditioner! These guys don’t mind drying out or being blasted by heat at all.
My favorites are the ‘Pepperspot’, ‘Felt’ and ‘Happy Bean’. ‘Pepperspot’ is a very fragile, dainty-looking plant with beautiful glossy, dark green, circular leaves trailing down a rosy-pink vine. The color clash of the two is fabulous! The ‘Felt’ is soft and fuzzy and the ‘Happy Bean’ looks like a cute little succulent made of green beans! I personally like to take the lower half of the foliage off of the ‘Happy Beans’ and make mini palm trees out of them - OMG SO CUTE IN FAIRY GARDENS! Just sayin…
If you don’t have one of these and you think you want one in your life, you need to come visit us ASAP! We have over 20 different varieties right now and they are looking good! See ya soon! :)
