Alyssum

Easy to grow from seed. Outstanding, quick flowering, low border annual. Ideal for edging, containers, and baskets. Sweetly-scented purple flowers cover dense, low, spreading, and compact plants.

Current varieties: ‘Royal Carpet, ‘Snow Cloth/Carpet of Snow’

Bachelor’s Buttons ‘Dwarf Polka Dots’

Commonly called Cornflower, it often reseeds itself. Attractive in the garden with long flower stems that are ideal for cutting. Easy to grow. An old-time favorite. Ideal massed in beds or border planting.

 

Columbine ‘McKana’s Giant Mix’

Colorful variety. Attractive long-spurred flowers show above graceful leaves. Ideal plant for beds or borders. Reseeds easily.

Cosmos ‘Sensation Mix’

An outstanding, easy to grow, summer flowering annual. Excellent for garden color or to use for cut flowers. Use as a backdrop in beds, borders, masses, or in a cut flower garden. Flower colors are rose, crimson, pink, and white.

 

Echinacea ‘Purple Coneflower’

Long lasting large purple flowers on tall robust plants. Its long stems make it ideal for cut flower bouquets. Native to the central eastern United States, it is somewhat drought resistant once established. Ideal for mass plantings in larger gardens, it also combines well with other tall perennials such as Shasta and Gloriosa daisies.

Godetia ‘Double Azalea Mix’

Colorful, prolific-flowering bedding plant. Bushy plants are ideal for massing, groups, and borders. Easy to grow. Long-lasting flowers can also be used for cutting.

 

Livingstone Daisy

Brilliant flowers provide colorful display in a sunny garden. Attractive daisy-like flowers cover the succulent leaves. Wide range of brilliant, luminous flower colors. Easy annual to grow from seed and does well with considerable neglect.

Lobelia

There are trailing & non-trailing lobelia with variety of of shades of blue flowers, excellent for window boxes and hanging baskets. Makes a stunning display planted alone or in combination with other flowering annuals.

Lupine ‘Russels Mix’

Colorful spike flowers stand out above attractive cut-leaf foliage. Bright, richly-colored flowers are especially nice background plants in borders and for massing.

Marigolds

One of the most consistent flowering annuals that can be grown in the flower garden. They seem to do well regardless of the weather. Easy to grow in full or part-sun. Keep dead flowers picked. Combines well with other low growing summer annuals in flower beds.

Current varieties: ‘Crackerjack Mix’, ‘Petite Mix’, ‘Starfire Signet Mix’

 

Nasturtium

A colorful, easy to grow, and low plant that is ideal for massing, borders, and spot color. Does well in cool weather. Excellent cut flowers for small arrangements. Flowers are held above foliage and bloom over an extended period.

Current varieties: ‘Dwarf Cherry Rose’, ‘ Dwarf Jewel Mix’, ‘Glorious Gleam Mix’, ‘Tall Single Mixed’

Pansy

Colorful winter flowers; plants burst into full bloom in earliest spring. Bushy plants produce small- to medium-sized flowers. Ideal for bedding, massing, rockeries, spot color, or as cut flowers for small arrangements.

Current varieties: ‘Hiemalis Mix’ (winter pansy), ‘Swiss Giant Mix’,

 

Poppy

A beautiful, permanent addition to any flower garden. Sweet smelling, delicate flowers of white, yellow, gold, apricot, and orange 4 inches in diameter. Excellent in borders or for mass plantings, makes a nice cut flower.

Current varieties: ‘California Mixed Colors’, ‘Iceland Gartford Giants’

Schizanthus ‘Butterfly Flower’

Colorful orchid-like flowers stand above attractive fern-like foliage. Dainty flowers come in a variety of mufti-marked colors. Ideal for massing, spot color or pot plants. Easy to grow.

 

Snapdragon ‘Deluxe Mixture’

Colorful, long-spiked flowers are attractive in the garden or as cut flowers. This rust-resistant variety is less likely to be spoiled by rust. Easy to grow. An old time favorite.

Sunflower

Plant sunflowers in a sunny location in somewhat fertile well drained soil. Keep soil weed free and moderately moist while plants are young. Once established plants are somewhat drought and heat tolerant. Will flower mid-summer through fall. Birds are attracted to the seeds.

Current varieties: ‘Autumn Beauty’, ‘Italian White Ice Cream’, ‘Mammoth’, ‘Mardi Gras Distino’ (dwarf), ‘Red Sun’

 

Sweet Peas

A popular annual vine. Its beauty and fragrance is outstanding in the garden, or as cut flowers in the home. Long flowering season.

Current varieties: ‘Old Spice’, ‘Royal Family Mix’

Zinnia

Bright, colorful flowers make this a real garden favorite. Flowers are 2 1/2 to 3 inches in size and come in a full range of colors. Ideal for borders, containers, mass plantings, and cut flowers.
